"Over and Over" is a song by American rapper Nelly featuring American state music singer Tim McGraw. The lyrics were written by Nelly while the music was written and produced by James D. "Sted-Fast" Hargrove 2 and Jayson "KoKo" Bridges. Other musicians contributing to the recording include Bryan Loss (drums) and Matthew Brauss (bass guitar). The lyrics of the vocal focus on regret.[1]

"Over and Over" was released on September 12, 2004, as the second single from Nelly's quaternary album, Suit, two days before Sweat and Adapt went on sale in stores. The song peaked at number three on the Us Billboard Hot 100. Outside the United States, the single topped the charts of Australia, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, and it peaked within the height 10 of the charts in 8 European countries and New Zealand. It was received positively by music critics, who gave most praise to McGraw's vocal performance.

Rashaun Hall of Billboard wrote that "Over and Over" possesses "existent emotion" and praised Tim McGraw'due south "moving" lyrics.[one] Jason Birchmeier of AllMusic also complimented McGraw'southward hook, proverb that it "works much better than it should."[2]

Commercial performance [edit]

"Over and Over" was a success on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 3 on December iv, 2004, and spending 24 weeks on the nautical chart.[three] On the Billboard Mainstream Top forty, the vocal peaked at number one and set multiple records, including the biggest leap to number one (vii–ane), the quickest climb to the superlative spot (4 weeks), and the biggest airplay increase for a number-one vocal (one,783 detections).[4] [5] Information technology also reached number 1 on the Rhythmic chart and entered the top twenty on the Adult Tiptop 40 and Hot Rap Songs listings.[6] [7] [viii] It was the 96th-most-successful vocal of the US in 2004 and the 48th-nearly-successful song of the following yr,[ix] [10] earning a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America in 2009.[eleven] The song was a radio hitting in Canada, peaking at number one on the Radio & Records CHR/Popular Top 30 nautical chart.[12]

In Europe, "Over and Over" topped the charts of Ireland and the United kingdom.[13] [14] In the latter land, it stayed on the U.k. Singles Chart for 15 weeks and was ranked at number 25 on the yr-stop chart for 2005.[fourteen] [xv] Information technology was certified silver in 2013 for shipping over 200,000 copies in the UK.[16] Across continental Europe, the single entered the pinnacle 10 in Austria,[17] the Czech Republic,[xviii] Denmark,[19] Germany,[20] Hungary,[21] Romania,[22] and Switzerland,[23] achieving a peak of number two on the Eurochart Hot 100.[24] It additionally topped the Australian Singles Nautical chart, staying at the top for five weeks,[25] earning a double-platinum certification,[26] and finishing in 5th place on Australia'due south year-finish nautical chart for 2005.[27] In New Zealand, it reached a summit of number two on February 14, 2005, and was the year's 29th-all-time-selling hit.[28] [29]

Music video [edit]

The music video was directed past Erik White and Nelly himself. During the video, Nelly and McGraw sing individually on split screen.
